Stress Management 101Understanding the physiological effects of chronic stress and how to reverse the symptoms.
This program reviews physiology in a simplistic form to allow for all students to learn or review how chronic stress causes catabolic (destructive) effects on the body. Many people may realize that stress effects the adrenal glands, but do not realize to what extent. The adrenals are responsible for the “fight or flight” response and are very helpful when we need that extra boost of energy. Daily stress causes the adrenals to produce too much adrenaline which then affects the pancreas and sugar handling. If this endocrine response continues for an extended period, a pre-diabetic state occurs along with the production of inflammation. If not treated effectively, the diagnosis of Type II diabetes is given and chronic inflammation leads to a myriad of diseases. Further discussion will include the causes of stress, how to recognize stress related symptoms and how to begin to negate the catabolic effects of stress. |
